Volunteer fighters continue to arrive in Ukraine to fight against Russian aggression. There are many nations enslaved by Moscow among volunteer fighters in Ukraine, including Erzian people (Erzya is one of the most populous Finno-Ugric nations of the Russian Federation). 

The official propaganda continues to reassure the Russian population that “the sanctions will have a beneficial impact which will stimulate economic modernization and growth.” At the same time, even the pro-government media of Tatarstan, the richest republic of the Russian Federation, reveals the actual state of affairs.

Russian forces did not manage to capture Kharkiv, Chernigiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kyiv and other large cities of Ukraine. Having suffered serious losses, Russian could not gain a foothold in the cities. Instead, they have switched to rocket strikes on residential districts and bombarding of civilian infrastructure objects. Moscow bets on killing the large number of civilians in this way demoralizing the adversary.

The political and socio-economic situation in the Russian Federation is becoming worse. Unparalleled sanctions introduced not only for Russian political leadership but also for Russian business caused considerable damage to Russian economics. Frustration is also growing among the wealthiest individuals of the Federation and Tatarstan, which is famous for its will to save its sovereignty and Tatar identity.  

Today, on March 2, Ilnur Sibagatullin was buried in Nizhnekamsk. Tatarstan citizen died in the war in Ukraine, although Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov didn’t specify this in his condolences. Experts drew attention to the disproportionately large number of non-Slavic names among the dead soldiers and prisoners.

Syres Bolaen, the Senior Chief of Erzya people, provided the «Idel.Реалии» reporter with exclusive comments on the situation in Kyiv. He is in the Ukrainian capital right now defending the capital on the side of Ukrainian Territorial Defence Forces.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation has declared the Free Idel-Ural organization undesirable in the territory of the Russian Federation. Information about the decision has already been sent to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in order to include “Free Idel-Urals” in the list of “foreign and international non-governmental organizations whose activities are considered undesirable in the Russian Federation.”

Syreś Boläeń, Inyazor (chief elder) of Erzya people announced the beginning of procedure for nomination of candidates to Council of elders of Erzya people (erz. Atyan’ Ezem). The corresponding document is published on Inyazor’s official web-site.

Erzya is one of the oldest Finno-Ugric languages with a unique vocabulary. Formally, Erzya is one of the official languages of the Republic of Mordovia, but in practice, Erzya, like any other Finno-Ugric people of the Russian Federation, is subject to a policy of aggressive assimilation.

Leaders of the Bashkir national movement have publicly called on Bashkirs not to take part in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Experimental multilingual classes with Russian, Erzya/Moksha, English languages of instruction may appear in Saransk.
