When the empire promoted the idea of “Russia for Russians”, it deliberately “forgot” to add that it did not care at all what ethnic component these Russians would have. The main thing is that they should be called Russian – it is not even necessary that they know the Russian language.

The imperial policy of assimilation is increasingly active, so the ordinary population begins to believe that not being an Udmurt is easier than being one. There are officially only 300,000 Udmurts left in Udmurtia, and 386,500 Udmurts in the entire Russian Federation. That is, 166,000 less than 10 years ago. About 14% or 210,000 refused to answer the question about nationality, preferring to be nobody – this is natural for a Nazi country, which teaches that no one needs nationality, although “it is better to be Russian.”

According to the UN, there are about 5,000 nations in the world who speak 7,100 languages. But there are only 195 states. Why could some nations manage to create their own states and later they lost them? Others managed to protect their national home and defend their independence. For the third, independence fell on their heads. Some nations have never had and will never have their own state. There are a lot of answers, and each situation is unique in its own way. The only thing that can be said with certainty is that freedom and independence are a luxury available to few nations.
