To assess and explain the social and political situation, they (and we too) have to resort to the formula that has long been stamped into the subconscious of Russians: “a step to the right, a step to the left is considered an escape, a jump on the spot is a provocation.”

The imperial policy of assimilation is increasingly active, so the ordinary population begins to believe that not being an Udmurt is easier than being one. Over the past 10 years, the official number of Udmurts has fallen by 100,000 – many people have indicated themselves as Russians. There are officially only 300,000 Udmurts left in Udmurtia, and 386,500 Udmurts in the entire Russian Federation. That is, 166,000 less than 10 years ago. About 14% or 210,000 refused to answer the question about nationality, preferring to be nobody – this is natural for a Nazi country, which teaches that no one needs nationality, although “it is better to be Russian.”
