Alexandr Tikshaikin, Erzya writer and journalist, a member of Atyan’ Ezem(Elders’ Council) of Erzya people, passed away aged 51 on 28 July 2020 in Saransk.

June 30, 2020. Presentation of new Erzya magazine, designed and released by emigrants from Russia, took place in Kyiv. The event was streamed online, all interested commenters had the opportunity to communicate with editorial board members who worked hard to create the magazine.

Syres’ Boliayen’, chief elder of Erzya people, announced presentation of first Erzya social and political magazine. Edition will be introduced in Kyiv, where the editorial board would sit.

As is well known, VIII World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples was intended to be held this year in Estonia. Viia-Kadi Raudalainen, managing director of NPO Fenno-Ugria, informed the public that the Congress is re-scheduled to 2021 because of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 12, second 2020 session of At’yan’ Ezem (erz. Council of Elders) took place. Council members accepted a bunch of resolutions in order to continue institutionalization processes in Erzya national movement.

For the dwellers of middle latitudes, the Pechora river basin, the Northern Ural, the Barents Sea coast are places unattractive and unsuitable for living. However, for a number of indigenous peoples it is a Homeland. Their lifestyle and habits – everything was adapted to the harsh environment. For the centuries people have been living this way, taking everything they needed from progress staying themselves.

Udmurt is a Uralic language spoken in Russia’s autonomous Republic of Udmurtia, where it shares official status with Russian. Speakers can also be found across a large area between the Volga River and Ural Mountains, such as in the Perm and Kirov Regions and neighbouring autonomous republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, and Mari El. It is one of several related Uralic languages spoken in this diverse area of Russia, such as Mari, Erzya, Moksha, and Komi.

The Estonian nationalist youth movement Blue Awakening calls the wider public to notice the russification policy against many of Russia’s indigenous peoples that has lasted for decades and gained momentum in recent years.
