The Russians may run out of ammunition due to sanctions: more than 300 employees of the cartridge factory to be laid off in Barnaul
This news was reported by numerous Russian media. Information about the upcoming layoffs was also confirmed at the enterprise and in the regional Ministry of Industry. Sanctions are only to our advantage, this is a well-known fact. And the cartridge factory is reducing production due to the growth of pacifism.
Barnaul Cartridge Plant is one of the largest Russian manufacturers of this kind of products. It produces more than 160 types of sports and hunting cartridges for rifled and smooth-bore weapons, for pistols, as well as more than 20 types of military cartridges.
Before the start of the “special operation”, the plant was doing quite well. In 2020 alone, the enterprise increased its export volume by one and a half times. Over the past three years, the Barnaul Cartridge Plant has exported more than 1 billion cartridges to more than 30 countries. 70 percent of cartridges were exported, mainly to the “decaying West”. Among the key buyers were North American enterprises, including the plant operating in the US market under the trademarks of local suppliers. That is why the imposition of sanctions by Western countries and the disruption of supply chains hit the cartridge factory very tangibly: more than 300 employees of the Barnaul cartridge factory will be officially laid off.
Anton Stepanov, deputy head of Barnaul Machine Tool Plant Holding Company, which includes the Barnaul Cartridge Plant, swears that the workers will be laid off in full accordance with the law, that is with two months’ notice and all due payments. Moreover, the enterprise is trying to ensure jobs for its employees, negotiating in this regard with all the major factories of the city and the region.
Surely, laid-off workers have chances to find a new job, but these chances will not apply to all of them. However, taking into account the payments, some workers may turn down employment offers in summer.
Sooner or later, sanctions will kill not only the ammunition plant, but also other Russian enterprises where different kinds of weapons can be produced. Therefore, pretty soon the Russians will be able to defend themselves only with sticks and stones.
