Secrets and statistics: the consequences of the war for the Tatars in 2023

Over the past year in Tatarstan, more than 9,000 people signed a contract with the  Armed Forces of Russia, said Evgeny Tokmakov, the head of the collection point for military service with a contract in Kazan. How many residents of the republic were mobilized is still a mystery. The Tatar Scout tells about this.

The names of at least 963 natives of Tatarstan who died in battles on the territory of Ukraine were known from open sources. The question of the number of dead Tatars from Bashkortostan and other Volga region republics remains unclear. There is also no number of people mutilated, as well as statistics on disability groups. There is not even any guess: how many Tatars are considered missing?

What is the number of Tatar children who were left half-orphans as a result of the unleashed war? Without access to true statistics, we cannot predict what will happen to our people if the war continues for the next decade. Concealing a problem does not mean solving it.
