History knows cases when entire villages and large lakes disappeared in such sinkholes in just one night. Nearby is the village of Shakhtau. The karst itself will be quite difficult to stop, so the village may have to be resettled soon. And problems with failures are the least that can be compared to environmental pollution during mining.
