The development team has created a trial version of the Russian-Mari translator based on neural network technologies

This is reported by computer linguist Andrey Chemyshev.

“The service is made for journalists who translate something from Russian into Mari every day. Our online translator makes their work a little easier,” he said.

The translator is at the testing stage. In the near future, the developers plan to implement a spell checking system. According to Chemyshev, correspondents for printed publications in the Mari language will correct wrong translations of artificial intelligence, which should further improve the quality of the translation.

A rhetorical question arises about the language situation: why do journalists in Mari El initially write in Russian, and the Mari language is only in second place for them? The national language should always be the first language of any publications in the republic. However, what can we say about this if most publications do not even have the Mari version. Maybe at least some of them will get it with this translator.
