Sweep operation: former deputy head of Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrey Vazanov found dead

In Kazan, a body of the former deputy head of the Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrey Vazanov was found. 

Russian pro-Kremlin media outlet Business Online reported of Vazanov’s death citing the law enforcement source. Vazanov could not be reached for a couple of days and his family sounded the alarm. The body of the chekist, Mayor General of Justice, was found in his apartment. The reason for his death is unclear and is to be determined. The sources didn’t give any other details. 

Andrey Yurevich Vazanov was born in Chuvashiya in 1962. He graduated from Kazan State University in 1984. After graduation, he worked as an investigative officer at the law enforcement department of Kirovsk Executive Committee of Kazan, then he held the position at the Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was promoted to the head of the investigation department of the investigative bureau of the Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 1999, he was in charge of the main investigation department of the Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was assigned its deputy head the same year. He held the office until 2010 until he was removed from office by the russian president Dmitriy Medvedev. He was involved in prosecution of activists of the Tatar national movement and oppression of Tatarstan muslims.
