On September 30, 1991, the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan was created

This was another step towards independence, towards the creation of its own scientific elite without regard to Moscow. An opportunity to show the world that Tatarstan is not a Russian province, but a candidate for equal membership among the international scientific community.

Now, not only Tatarstan’s sovereignty is being taken away, but also its Tatar identity, replacing it with an “all-Russian” one. The clause on the development of Tatar identity in Tatarstan’s program for the implementation of the state national policy no longer exists.

A little more time will pass – the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan will be replaced by some “regional division of the Russian Academy of Sciences”.
