Moscow has withdrawn so much money from Tatarstan that the republic has a chance of going bankrupt
As Radik Gaizatullin, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tatarstan, said, in 2024 Tatarstan remained in debt to Moscow 113.4 billion rubles with a budget deficit of 13.5 billion. Previously, the republic “received” 90.4 billion from the so-called federal budget and another 23 billion were state guarantees of the republic.
Gauleiter Minnikhanov stated that there are certain “obligations” on “defense issues”, so the next year would be “difficult”, but the main thing is to prevent bankruptcy and non-payment of salaries. Moreover, the debt amount could be 12.3 billion rubles more if Moscow had not generously decided to write off part of Tatarstan’s “debt”. But the “write-off” occurred thanks to the active work of the occupation republican authorities to expand the tax base and implement new investment projects.
In other words, Moscow forgave Tatarstan’s “debt” because the occupation government of the Republic of Tatarstan tried to collect even more taxes from the population of Tatarstan that were sent to the so-called “federal budget” controlled by the Kremlin.
Tatarstan annually transfers 70-71% of its budget to Moscow – these are amounts from 1 to 1.5 trillion rubles, while 300-500 billion remain in the budget of Tatarstan in different years. At the same time, Tatarstan still “remains in debt”. Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, reported that in previous years Tatarstan transferred up to 75% of tax revenues to the federal budget, but with the efforts of the republican authorities this proportion has increased in favor of Tatarstan. In fact, this is no more than 3-4%.
Anton Siluanov, the so-called Minister of Finance of Russia, actually mockingly called the budget of the Republic of Tatarstan for 2025 “balanced and meeting the objectives of the national goals of the country, as well as having opportunities in case of risks.”
