Curiosities of the Russian public justice: member of Nizhny Tagil counter extremism council was convicted of extremism

The imam, a member of the city counter extremism council, was convicted of distributing literature of  extremist nature.

66.RU reports about this incident.

The prosecutor’s investigation detected 23 books, included in the list of literature of extremist nature by the Ministry of Justice, at imam khatib Fanis Galiev’s Nizhny Tagil Mahal mosque. Moreover, the police revealed the facts of spreading such information among mosque worshippers. Galiev was held administratively liable pursuant to the Article 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses ‘Mass Distribution of Extremist Materials’. He was fined.

The regional Muslim Spiritual Directorate of Sverdlovsk oblast, governing Mahal mosque, has to consider the issue on whether Galiev will hold the position of imam of the spiritual organization.

This example has to demonstrate that even a member of the counter extremism council might miss some updates on what the state, unleashing the unprovoked war in the 21st century, labels as literature of extremist nature.
