100 years without an anthem
On July 14, 1993, the anthem of the Republic of Tatarstan was approved based on the music of composer Rustem Yakhin.
For 20 years the anthem was without words, but in 2013 they approved the anthem with the Tugan Yagym poem by Ramazan Baytimerov. Russian chauvinists would not be Russians if they had not ordered Minnikhanov to include words in Russian in the anthem of Tatarstan as a must. Therefore, 8 lines of the anthem are sung in Tatar, and another 8 in Russian.
The Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was formed on May 27, 1920, but the occupying communist power prohibited the autonomous republics from having their own anthems, although the anthems of cities, villages, or even school were not only allowed, but even encouraged to be used.
Involuntarily, the Strugatsky Brothers come to mind… Soon we will also have something like, “The anthem of the Republic of Tatarstan is allowed to be sung only in Russian with the obligatory glorification of fraternal Russia! Tatars are not allowed to sing the anthem! They are allowed to stand at attention with their head down!”
